Default Changing domain name for an account

Hiya,

I'd like to change the main domain name for one of my hosting accounts, but keep traffic to the old domain working so that inbound links still work.

It seems that the recommended way to do this (and keep Google happy) is to use 301 redirects from old.com to new.com. I'll be keeping the site structure the same, so no problems there.

So I guess I could create a new account in WHM for new.com, copy all the files across and then 301 redirect from the old.com account to the new domain. Then redirect emails too.

Is there a better way to do this with cpanel? I've looked at parking new.com on the same account as old.com, but that doesn't make it clear to search engines that new.com is the main domain? I still have a feeling that I can do this without creating a new account and moving files/database, but can't see how...

Any suggestions appreciated - thanks!

Jason

You could always do this directly from your /whm >> Account List >> Select the (pen?) next to the username and make the necessary domain change there if you are looking to go from one domain to the other.

If your not wanting to do it that way you can indeed use the R301

whm: Account Functions >> Modify an Account
select the account via pulldown
change domain, change username, change whatever you want.
