Default Load Balancing Distribution

Not sure how many of you folks follow up on this kinda stuff. However, it would be neat to see (I'm hearing that SwSoft is working on it) a load balancing service for VPS's.

For example, you have 3 VPS nodes (MUST be on seperate servers - vital that they are). Then you can place a VPS on each one and setup VPS1 and 2 as your sites they would rysnc or mirror each other and the 3rd VPS would act like a load balacing unit that would see where to send the traffic (to which VPS - dependant on load of the VPS, users etc...)

Is this what's being promised for Virtuozzo 4?

That sure would boost sales of the VPS platform. That would be awesome.

Not much about what features will be packing in V4. But I know that its in BETA right now, and will be out in prob 3 months.... so as you can imagine towards end of the year.. or first quarter next year... its a while off...

Still, its always nice to see innovation coming from these companies. Seeing what is coming always makes you feel refreshed that things are always improving in this industry.

This sounds a lot like UltraMonkey

Which (in their own words)...

"...Ultra Monkey is a project to create load balanced and highly available network services. For example a cluster of web servers that appear as a single web server to end-users. The service may be for end-users across the world connected via the internet, or for enterprise users connected via an intranet.

Ultra Monkey makes use of the Linux operating system to provide a flexible solution that can be tailored to a wide range of needs. From small clusters of only two nodes to large systems serving thousands of connections per second...."

Also, for those interested, I found a pretty good "how to" from which to tweak/install etc., here: How To Set Up A Loadbalanced High-Availability Apache Cluster | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials

I'm not saying we should all jump to that, but would be interested if anyone's done this perchance?

Very nice post. I'll have to check this one out when I need load balancing.
