Default VPS cover page

Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms in Google, I'm not finding much of value.

Please can someone point me in the right direction so that I can implement this scenario:

When I register a domain, I point it to my nameservers during the registration. Often, the site will go up several days (or weeks) later. How do I set up WHM (or DNS zone?) to point domains (which point to one of my VPS servers) that have no actual hosting account yet to a single index.html page? A page like "Coming soon".

Any help is appreciated.

I believe what you are looking for in WHM is Skeleton Directory

Quote:
New Account Skeleton Directory
/root/cpanel3-skel

This directory is what will be used as a skeleton for new accounts. For example if you place an index.html file in /root/cpanel3-skel/public_html, and then setup a new account, that account will have a copy of your index.html in their public_html directory.
That is quoted from my personal VPS WHM

Actually that is sort of humorous. Who in their right mind would search google for skeleton directory when trying to find out how to make a default landing page....

I just LOLed

Default Clarification

Hi Scott,

Sorry, I didn't mean the skel directory.

What I am looking to facilitate is...
  1. Domain name is registered and nameservers are set to the ones on one of my VPS servers.
  2. Domain accounts are not yet created.
  3. Someone types in the registered URL (that has no account on the server yet).
  4. I want that domain to point to a generic index.html (or whatever) page until I create the account on the server
I hope that makes more sense now.

I have zero experience with this but I think what you need is Wildcard DNS. So I think this search should help you: wildcard DNS cpanel - Google Search

I assume this is the correct tutorial to use for my needs? (Searched using Scott's wording).

HostICan - Support - Pre-Sales, E-Mail, and so many more answers... :: How do I setup a wildcard on my hosting?

Is this the right one?
Thanks

Wildcards

You mean change the:

to t h i s

edit this file:

/usr/local/apache/htdocs/index.html

now, any domain without an account on your VDS that points to an IP on your VDS will show your customized parking page.
