Post Securing logins to WHM

Question: How do I configure WHM to permit logins from only one IP address?

Scenario: I want to be able to use htaccess (or a better method) to enable logins to WHM only from predefined IP addresses. I need the ability to edit those predefined IP addresses. Here is an example htaccess entry (below) that I use on a hosted domain. In general it returns a 404 error if the individual attempting to log in is not on the predefined IP address list. When the user's IP address changes, I just edit the htaccess file and ftp back up to the server.

Code:
AuthUserFile /dev/null
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName "Access Control"
AuthType Basic

order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
allow from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
1) Which directory would I have to ftp the file to?

2) How can I create an account that would enable ftp access to just that directory?

it's pretty hard to do that. You can do that by a firewall, but if your IP changes.... you're out of luck. So you need to have a static IP, and then make sure you have the right firewalls only to allow you to port 2086.

The best way is prob via .htaccess... keeps most folks out.

I really wish US GOVT would adopt IPv6 so everyone can have a static IP without issue. Then I would gladly do something like this.

Ahh! Okay, thanks. Maybe Scott will use his pull to get the Internet to fully adopt IPv6 Hee hee hee

Have you heard of a certificate or somesuch method of accessing WHM? Maybe there are other solutions (I've got some googling to do I suppose. Ho hum...)
