Does anyone know of some reliable, secure, FTP backup hosting companies to use for FTP backup via WHM?

You're probably not going to get much of answer from the folks here at hostican. They've been incredibly unhelpful and don't even let you setup cron times to run ftp backups from WHM. I've tried, but the settings reset everyday.
I had a support guy from hostican tell me the following: In terms of backups, we only support incrimental backups, as they cause load on the boxes some kinda awful when doing a .tar.gz backup. To which I replied with: How do I setup the backup configuration (in whm) to backup individual cpanel accounts, ie. which directory should I point the backup to? To which he responded with: All backups are counted against your total disk space on your hosting enviroment. I would do backups directly via the cPanel interface. So even though you're paying for the bandwidth and the vps, and a whole uncrippled version of WHM, they don't allow you to do this. I understand them not wanting to load down their servers for the sake of everyone, but it sure would be nice to know this in advance before I paid them money. I've offered to pay them to do backups for me. They just don't care. So good luck to you. |

I did just get back a response to another support request and was very pleased to be met with an honest assessment. Basically they're aware of the issue and are working hard on a solution to resolve it.
I'm totally cool with honesty such as this and am happy to stick around and wait for a solution when people shoot straight with me. Who could really ask for more? |

I spoke to HIC after posting this and not getting any response here.
I was told they are working on offering a (paid) backup solution that would allow us to do backups via WHM and hope to have it available to us in the next several months. I have noticed that WHM resets from FTP backup to standard backup (to your local drive), too, and am at a loss as to how to proceed with backup other than using cPanel--which is really unrealistic for larger sites--until HIC offers their alternative. I have one account that alone takes 4 hours to download a cPanel backup and I've got a 6 MB/s download speed. Did you get any more info on HIC's solution, toddimus? |
