Default Kernel Source

I need to establish a VPN with the protocol PPTP (Windows) so, i installed the program pptpd, but it said that need the kernel to support the ppp module, so i need to compile the module ppp_mppe, for this i need the kernel source. each time i used a modprobe to see if it can get that module it says that FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.9-023stab048.4-enterprise/modules.dep: No such file or directory

yum doesn't supply the sources, i try yum install kernel-devel or any flavor of the kernel with no succes so i searched for the kernel on the web, and the more close one was from this Download/kernel/rhel4/023stab048.4 - OpenVZ Wiki

i follow this Kernel build - OpenVZ Wiki to buil the kernel, i don't want to install it only the modules, because i see that there is no /lib/modules/2.6.9-023stab048.4-enterprise/ on my system.

I have my app running without problem, only need the kernel sources to be able to insert modules, where can i find this sources?

Hi Noriad, you can obtain the full source archive for this Kernel from The Linux Kernel Archives
Look at this thread openvpn on Linux VPS hosting - Your HostICan Community , you may switch to OpenVPN instead pptpd.

i try to use another kernel source but that means changing the current kernel, and this may create more problems. And the only thing i need to add support for the ppp_mppe module.

The vpn is made with a hardware router, so it doesn't support any other protocol for vpns

You want to recompile the kernel because pptpd? I guess that you are reading an incorrect help guide. Anyway, just ask the support to install tun device for you.

This is absolutely true! Check if TUN/TAP device is enabled.
