Default installing wordpress internal server error 500

Hey all! New to this VPS stuff, but am totally impressed by the information that's available here! Thanks in advance!

So I set up an account in control panel for a domain and I am able to pull up .html files and i've run a couple test .php files but when I try and install wordpress i get an internal error 500 - I've set up dozens of wordpress blogs in a shared environment, but I'm afraid I'm getting stumped here. any help? thanks!

the complexities are whether I have the right permissions set in my cpanel account, whether i set up the database correctly and added the user correctly (i think i did), etc.

please help! thanks!

Your cPanel account created from your WHM hould behave exactly the same.

Try uploading the zip file to your public_html folder then login to your cpanel and use the file manager to extract it. That way you know all of the files are there and working. That's how I setup my Wordpress and other packages.

I think the database info is requested after you run the installation setup after file extraction.

BTW, welcome to the forums!

I had uploaded the zip and moved it to a directory above the client account using root and unzipped it in that folder, then copied everything to a subdirectory in the client www folder. Apparently some permissions got messed up in that process. I did as you recommended above (but unzipped via ssh in the www folder) - and viola! it's good to go. thanks!

You got MU working? Now that is AWESOME to hear. How hard was it? I was considering setting an MU up someday as a future business.

Whenever that happened to me while installing wordpress, it is because of the .htaccess file. Sometimes wordpress adds it's entries without starting a new line.
