Default Default installation doesn't include mod rewrite for Apache

I'm having difficulty getting mod rewrite installed for my Apache instance. My default VPS installation didn't come with this module added. I've checked my Apache modules directory and the mod rewrite file isn't there, so I can't include it in httpd.conf
Anybody else here had a similar problem?

Without covering any specific module, WHM / cPanel has an Easy :: Apache feature, where you can rebuild Apache and add what you feel is necessary, but you are, of course, responsible if something goes wrong.

The best thing to do if you are acquainted with this sort of thing is to select the previous profile, and build upon that rather than starting from scratch.

FYI: Easy :: Apache backs up your Apache/PHP configuration, keeping your site alive and will not restart Apache until the installation is finished and the configuration saved.

But again if you've never installed Apache yourself or via the WHM/cPanel method, I'd recommend you file a support ticket for anything that might be missing.

Actually cPanel does come by default with mod_rewrite as it uses itself.
