Most professionals prefer to own both programs because of their unique capabilities which complement each other. If you need to acquire, modify, print or deploy to the web images of a photographic nature then better use Photoshop. If you need to create complicated graphics like maps, logos, schematics, or even publications for print like ads, brochures, menus, etc, then Illustrator is the one.

thanks a lot for your replies, maybe ill also study more on illustrator coz i will use them in dealing with client's demands

Illustrator is for professional vector graphics and print media.
Photoshop is for professional bitmap graphics and digital media.
