Default CPU replacement screen

I would like to suggest the website owner have the option of creating their own page that can be used to inform the visitor,

"Sorry, this website is currently overloaded. Please return momentarily."

Instead of the HostICan default screen. I am concern this would encourage hackers.

I don't think this would be a good idea as it would encourage others to build in scripts to bypass our security settings.

Agreed. It's the responsibility of the customer to be a good neighbor in a shared environment. Understand that more than 99.9% of our customers never run into such problems. If you're just careful about the software mods you use, and pay attention to rapid growth that might make it essential to upgrade to VPS or dedicated, you'll do fine.

I'll have to agree with Denis and Shazam as well. It should be extremely rare these resource usage messages appear. Therefore, there isn't really a need for a custom message that can leave holes in the HIC security.

Just be a friendly neighbor.

well it is never done intentionally (overloading the servers) hell none of us have done anything different and BAM we are now getting these overload errors

while the custom thing might not be the best thing ever, the host needs to realize we arent PURPOSELY overloading their servers.

We know most of you aren't. But when you encounter this message, you need to nail down the cause and fix it as soon as possible. For the sake of everyone, it's not something we can allow in a shared environment. I'm sure you understand how everyone can be impacted if one person is taking 25% of a server's resources.

which hasnt been the easiest thing in the world to do.. i still didnt figure it out, just changed bulletin boards.

i think you made people that werent aware of "cpu timeouts" comfortable by not telling people they were over, and waiting till you had better equipment or whatever to monitor, then raiding everyone at once. i am a forum n00b so i had no idea i had to have "quick queries" or whatever they were called, i just kept on running my board, and only when we were bombarded with the error message, did we even know anything was wrong, let alone was able to do something about it before all this. and then when im getting suspended every 10 mins FOR 5 mins, it only makes it harder to fix the problem!

not saying you guys should change anything, but this is how it affected me, and im sure i am not alone in this.

yes, i understand that 25% is alot, but i hope you guys understand our issues as well. if some of us dont know something is wrong, we dont know till its too late

I am curious so I can better understand.

So when you say shared hosting, are you saying that multiple domains share the same server?

If multiple domains are sharing the same server, does that mean multiple users are sharing the same server?

If user 1 has 4 domains, is it 25 percent for all four domain together

or is it 25 percent for each of the domain?

If user 2 has 6 domains, is it 25 percent for all six domains together

or is it 25 percent for each of the domain?

The math is what is confusing me.

I guess I am trying to understand this shared server thing.

Your account as a whole cannot use 25% CPU resources at any given time. That's my understanding.
