Default Wildcards

A question that we seem to get a lot lately is; you you support wildcards? Well, this is a tricky question... on some services we do and on others we don't. For example, the Base-Host and Tera-Host accounts we don't support wild cards.

Yet, we do support wildcards on the VPS's, and you can find how to set them up here:

Would you mind explaining what a wildcard is used for and why people need it?

I've always seen the DNS stuff in WHM and have totally ignored it. Edumacate me.

Sure. WP MU (WordPress Muti User) depends on wild card subdomains like:

*.domain.com will still resolve to a certain location... for example if you wanted any subdomain (that doesn't really exist to redirect to say your home page?) you can do that
by doing:

*.domain.com and setting it to direct to http://yoursite.com that way I could type:

apple.domain.com
cool.domain.com
matt.domain.com
scott.domain.com
etc..

and they would go to different folders or locations or all to the same place.

Wait, automatically point domain.com/folder1 to folder1.domain.com without having to setup the subdomains via cPanel backend?

Hmm, I actually need this for a future affiliate hosting site I am doing... I'll have to read that FAQ page and IM you later. Haha
