At HostGator, we pretty much get an unlimited amount of bandwidth from our provider thanks to having thousands of servers. We also have 10,000’s of gigs disk space not being used. Giving away unlimited disk space and bandwidth doesn’t really cost us anything. It’s the CPU and memory that has a real value.
===========
At HostGator we put 200′ish customers per box and if the server load increases, it can generally be attributed to just one person on that server causing 90% of the problem.

So No Overloaded Servers
============
Anyone we find crashing a server will be moved onto a server with only twenty accounts on it for the same monthly hosting price, instead of being suspended. Twenty customers will be paying us just shy of $200 a month on a server which at our cost has a $1,200 setup and about $250 a month leasing fee. You heard me… We are going to be giving abusers hosting below our cost. I’m not even factoring in merchant fees, support costs, or server administration time!

So no Banning of Sites
===============
I could have lied as most hosting company blogs and CEO’s do by saying something along the lines of… “We are very excited that our growth has allowed us to negotiate better pricing which we are passing on to our customers in the form of larger plans.” HostGator is one of biggest hosting companies in the world so I know a statement like this is BS. I’m sure many of you will be upset with me writing this as the truth hurts, and I’m sure some of you would even prefer I lie to you, but really in the end honesty is the best way to go.

It is good that someone from HostGator is brave to admit the truth.

Lesson Learnt - Never take any Hosting plans at face value. Do research and read Hosting Reviews in as many sites as possible, especially the negative reviews.
OK, marketing spin. No way they only put 200 customers on a server. People who have worked there tell us it's a lot lot more. And industry estimates show their uptime to be about average.

One more thing: Don't ignore the real facts behind that entry, and it's stated in the passages you didn't reference.

You will maximize your CPU and/or RAM limits long before you approach bandwidth limits. That's true anywhere with today's database-driven content, such as blogs and forums. We're as generous as anyone as to our offerings, but in the end it still comes down to that.

So what you should be looking for is not absolute numbers, but a company that can deliver first-rate service and performance. Also, unlike HostGator, we own all our servers, paid for with cold, hard cash. As everyone in the industry knows, they lease their hardware from their provider, The Planet, which makes them essentially a middleman or reseller of services.

But I have read in some forum of Hostican having nearly 1000 websites in one server. Heavily loaded, it seems ???

You are confusing sites with customers. One customer may have a dozen sites. No, we don't have 1,000 customers on a server. Nothing near that high. A couple of hundred is closer to the figure.

It's unfortunate that people who really have no clue what is going on choose to make up stories about us and other hosts. They really need a life.

I've had 150 mini sites on HostICan shared before. The sites were static sites with no resource usage. Does that mean the server is overloaded with 1000 sites? Heck no.

It's just like someone parking 100 domains on a site, your reverse lookups will show all 100 domains.

That's something that was also answered by me in another thread, essentially, but as you know some people don't always pay attention
