Unhappy Internal Server Error 500

Hello,

I password protected a directory on my Tera-Host account, and got an "Internal Server Error 500" after entering the username and password on the URL to test the password protection.

I have not uploaded anything to the account yet -- this is a new account, and wanted to password protect the directory before my developers upload my website. I am including the content of the htaccess file under this (/public_html) directory.

All help will be appreciated -- thanks, in advance.

Try removing the .htaccess or renmaing it completely, then re-do the password protection, it should resolve this issue. I'm not a .htaccess guru, but I know something in here is causing the issue.

It doesn't look like you have tons of advanced configs in here, so renaming would prob the ideal way to handle it.

Thanks for your response.

1. I renamed the .htaccess file, and I don't get the error message anymore. However, won't the renaming affect any other functions?

2. I can't undo the password protection even if I want to. I uncheck the box for password protection and click Save, but it doesn't undo it. I will only want the password protection temporarily, so after some time of uploadng the website, I will need the password protection eliminated. How to solve this?

Thanks

If you delete the .htaccess that should fix the above problem(s).

Thanks. I also had to delete the user, associated with the password protected directory. It seems to be working now.

Thanks

Did you use cpanel for protection, or front page? Your .htaccess is generated by frontpage,
so, the cPanel pass protection is not compatible with FP..

so just use the [Tools] [Server] [Administration Home] link via Front Page, create a subweb,
and password protect the subweb.

To be honest, frontpage sucks, and I would suggest that no one uses it.

yer intiited to yer opinion; having learned FP from the ground up, i still use it, still support it on my servers. not everyone has the big bux to buy the "latest & greatest" junk from macromedia/adobe/dream weaver/ flashmx, etc. nor the time to figure out all the complicated junk these others put out at considerable cost.

I started out with a simple program called "notepad" without any html, php, etc... what happened to the good old write by hand without having all the generators? I still use notepad, and prefer it over FP, DreamWeaver, etc...

So you can't say I use the latest and greatest, cause I dont, just use my head and notepad... its done well for me for the past 8 years.
