How long until domain is active?

When a customer of ours forwards their 'welcome' email from HostICan, how long until the domain becomes active? They get the domain when they signup for hosting, but after 12 hours, it still isn't up.

Is this a normal process?

I would say that 12 - 24 hours is about fair as it takes a little while for a Domain to propagate via all the ISP's etc... I would be more then happy to look into this issue, if it exists after 24 hours, please PM me with the details at that time.
