Server wise, I use shared/VPS solutions with about 10 hosting plans. I do this for SEO reasons.
Google thinks better of VPS-based websites, (as well as domain names with distant expiration dates). Makes the whole thing look more serious and reliable. Is that it?

If you put all our sites under one IP, engines will know all your sites are linked.

Google has no way of knowing if you are ona VPS or shared though, other than perhaps seeing 100 domains on a shared IP.

It isn't possible for Google to tell what type of hosting other than perhaps if google programmed its bots to detect how long a page loads compared to the page size... that might be a clue with overloaded shared servers.

If google does that... there might be big issues within the hosting market causing some smaller hosts to be displayed before big hosts as they would have less customers per box perhaps? -- I think google should just work on search and not get into other parts like this...

Nah, Google is much more evil than this. But I am not about to say why....

I started with Google webmaster tool 1 day ago, it's really cool.

WOW how in the world would you manage all those? I have been working on my main site for what will be 2 years in january 08. I can't hardly get one site launced let along 100. How do you do it Scott? doodoofan How well are you on your way to meeting that goal?

Most of my sites are mini-nets with little updating. I focus primarily on 5 major content sites which feed my smaller sites.

The most important from the above list is the number of quality backlinks to your site.

However, the most important factor is your site MUST provide benefits to your visitors
so you will be referred by other sites and by your visitors.

Your visitors will be coming back to your site even if Goo gle or PR doesn't exist anymore.

I'm not much of a SEO guru, but from what I heard that the longer you have a domain the more valuable, and then more links you get the more you will build traffic thus adding to your PR... etc...

Personally, I think its a commitment, to building... you have to spend years doing it and as time goes by... you will have something worth quite a bit...

Short term, I think blogging and forums help to bring in new traffic....
