I have been searching for a Flash developer for a client, and ran across a group that looks promising. I mentioned it to Mike when I was talking to him about an unrelated issue and he asked that I post the info here in case others might find it useful.
I have no connection to these guys, and can't (yet) vouch for them. Here's their Craig's List Ad, which is how I found them. Since that link will expire, here's their website. |

Ugh, I can't stand sites that are 100% flash based. Terrible for search engines too.... I can't sit there for all that time to wqait for something to load. Give me something to read while you make me wait for your content to appear.

Personally, I agree. I think once you get past the ooh-ahh stage it's just eye candy. I prefer a good PHP/HTML site; however, clients love the eye candy.
One client makes a convincing case for their use of Flash. They host online magazines, and while the sites themselves are conventional, the magazines are Flash-based. With AJAX, after the initial load delay the pages load in the background and flipping pages is faster than loading a conventional web page. They can also get away with larger images, zoom, etc. that work more smoothly than a non-Flash approach. I thought about setting up a Windoze machine, coughing up the money for all the proprietary software, and learning to develop in Flash, but then I thought, "Nah". That's why I've been looking for a good Flash developer... |
