Howdy
<-- does that smiley remind anyone else of Dilton?I'm looking for a new host and had a few questions about server outages. The most common issue I am seeing with my current host is someone else on the server writes a script with an endless loop and locks everything up until an admin notices and restarts Apache. I'm looking for a host that monitors server load and can automatically restart services if admins are away. Does HIC do this? And do you use suexec or somesuch so that you can tell which user's script has gone awry? The other problem I've dealt with is hard drive failure. It's only happened to me twice, but neither host used RAID. I keep my own backups, but the hosts had to set the server up from scratch which took a day and a half. Could you hot-replace a failed hard drive? Last question should be a bit easier. Can the PHP Mailparse extension be installed? Thanks a lot Look forward to hanging out here ![]() -Mango Last edited by Mango; 06-24-2008 at 02:13 AM. Reason: The smiley looked like Dilton |

Quote:
1. Yes! RAID is a must, and we actually use RAID 10 (copies the data onto 4 drives). 2. We watch loads and have ways to deal with abusers (the system is automated - so i t actually does that for us) 3. We do use PHP running as CGI so that fixes the permissions problems that some users will / would encounter. 4. When someone is abusing, the key isn't to restart its to find out who it is and sort the problem out with them ![]() Hope that answers your questions
