I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to be able to tell how much resources a web site is using currently? (resources as in memory). I'm asking because I'm concerned that I too would be subject to a site going down/suspended after reading posts about similar occurances in this forum. Does HostIcan warn the account manager when this has happened? It would be horrible to find out the site has gone down for a day or more and not realize it!
I have 9 domains I manage, 2 of which are my own businesses and probably the busiest, and although they are not busy year round, usage spikes dramatically at certain times of the year, spring and fall - they are garden-related businesses, both with osCommerce installed plus Coppermine photo galleries. The bandwidth used is huge on the lily site due to the photos in the catalog and the gallery. HostIcan sounds ideal as a host to me, uses and offers many of the same features I have with the current host, the price is right and I am impressed with the service referred to in this forum. The sites are often timing out on the current host and I'm sure it's due to the large number of sites per server. This has improved the last 2 months but that may be due to the fact that the sites are no longer as busy this time of year. I asked for a dedicated IP address for one site hoping it would improve but it didn't make any difference that I could see when we were at our busiest time of year, lots of time outs still. I dread a move due to all the work involved, but I think I need a different host and I need to make the move this week. Looking forward to any replies! |

Mainly, you need to open a support ticket with the sites you consider to be using a lot of resources. High traffic forums and blogs are the more common sites using a lot of resources.
BTW, upgrading your plan is simple. They will gladly move your sites over to a VPS if you need. ![]()

Mainly it all depends on traffic... what traffic you use is what is going to dictate what hosting account you will need. If you know you will get lots of traffic!! -- use a VPS or dedicated!

I can see it now "But I have 2,500GB of bandwidth to use before I need to upgrade"

I say that one day you will see plans like:
10 PentaBytes (10 PB) Disk Storeage and 100 PB Bandwidth and that will be the "norm"
