Exclamation Where can i find the my.cnf file?

i have tried looking for the 'my.cnf' file for mysql but even support cannot help me. that is another story. Anyway,

screenshot 1: ran the shell command: locate my.cnf. Says the file in on etc folder on my ftp. checked there couldnt find it.

screenshot 2: phpmyadmin has all the system variables listed. Supports is adamant that i must have deleted the my.cnf file - how possible that is i dont know because how can i delete a file i am looking for, a file i dont even know where it is hence i sent a support ticket- you tell me!! If it is deleted how come phpmyadmin can still pull does variables off and display it. - just assuming.

That seems to be a very stupid excuse not to do any work. why would i delete a config file.

Anyway moving on, my question is that i need someone to tell me know where this my.cnf file is.

Thanks all contributions will be appreciated.

I also ran a SHOW VARIABLES command on the SSH client for my domain using the mysql console and all the variables where listed.

thanks

Hello,

Basically what you need to do is:

1. Login via root (via shell) using putty
2. do: cd /etc/
3. vi my.cnf

You won't be able to see this file from a GUI as its a core system file, you will have to do all this from putty.

Thanks i ran the shell commands and truly i was able to see the my.cnf settings. I didnt find any setting on InnoDB though. I dont think everything showed up.

Another question how do i then edit the cnf file in SSH console?

how do i exit from this .cnf file?

Thanks i really appreciate your help. At least am heading somewhere now rather than a stupid accusation of me deleting the file i havent even seen.

You will only be able to access it via Shell, so if you're unaware on how it works, you won't be able to make the changes.

You may want to try via winscp to download the file, update it, and upload it (only other option left)>
