Hello,

What you need to do is take everything out of the "upload' file and put the contents of the upload folder into the public_html folder then you will be able to run the /install/install.php file.

that's it? why can't the vbulletin manual just say that? let me give it a shot.

thanks again.

update: made a little bit of progress, but got a different error message this time:

Warning: vB_Registry::include() [function.include]: Failed opening '/home/cheapcol/public_html/forum/includes/config.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/cheapcol/public_html/forum/includes/class_core.php on line 2533

Configuration: includes/config.php does not exist. Please fill out the data in config.php.new and rename it to config.php

latest update:

i changed the config.php.new to config.php, and it looks it's working.

thanks again inxcode

what does this error mean?

Step 2) Connect to the database

Attempting to attach to database

Error description: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'gold'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home/cheapcol/public_html/forum/includes/class_core.php on line 311

The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.

In the vbull config you didn't specify the database username, database password, and the actual database that is why you are having this issue.

Please create a database, assign the db a user and a password (all done within cPanel >> MySQL)

then you should be able to update the config and go thru the installation process again.

finished! it's actually not that hard if you get good instructions.

by the way, this board is way more helpful than the vbulletin support ticket system.

Thanks Inxcode again, you've made my day.

I heard something about them charging for this? Like $150 or something (I might be wrong about the price, but I think they do charge installation if you want them to do it).

Glad to hear that I was able to help, if you have any further questions, please feel free to post here so we may assist you further.

vBulletin also has gone install instructions, very specific. But evidently you didn't see the part about entering the right info in the config.php file.
