Default How to clean up MySQL DB?

I am starting to clean up my WordPress forum and somewhat figuring out what was causing my CPU overload issues in the past. It appears to happen when I export my data for backup or when I am deleting the keys from my custom fields (I deactivated two plugins, All in 1 SEO pack. and the Articles plugins. Decided I don't need them anymore).

So I noticed that not every time but the CPU seems to be overloaded while in the process of performing these two functions.

I know that part of this is cleaning up MySQL database when I delete the keys. Is there a way to do this from the phpAdmin screen if I can figure out which table to "drop"?

I guess I am looking for some guidance on how to clean up my sql db without messing it up.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I got a new paid theme that really improved the site's performance by eliminating the need for a few plugins but these plugins did not remove their residues.

There's a plugin known as Clean Options that's supposed to remove stuff from orphaned plugins. You might also try Lester Chan's WP-DBManager, which lets you repair and optimize tables and remove tables from within its interface. But be sure you know what you're doing before you experiment with the latter.

Yeah, I have used Lester's WP DB plugin. Unfortuantely there are some limitations to it. Lester and I explored it and it became apparent that the way HostICan has their server set up, some of the plugin features won't work and that includes the clean up part. It can still optimize but it wont backup.

So I been looking for alternatives and I don't want to deal with plugins, just go directly into the database and clean it out. I will have to look around to find some MySQL answers. If I find one that answers this question, I will be sure to post a link here.

It should work insofar as optimizing and repairing the database and removing tables even if it doesn't do the backups properly. There's another database out there Database Backup I think, that does.

Backup DBs daily (just remember to login and download once a week and delete) using cron + mysqldump. That's how I backup my stuff.
