Default Banner Ad Question

I was approached by a company that asked about placing a banner ad at the top of my forum. They didn't mention a price so I'm curious as to how much to charge. Any ideas on what I might be able to ask? I get about 700 to 800 hits a day.

Thanks!

Mike

Im going to say that I have no clue when it comes to this, since I work with CPA and a few other things mainly. However, I would say between $100 and $250 would be fair, dependent on your site etc...

I think the average CPM (cost per 1000) is like $5-10.
800 page views x 30 = 24,000 a month
24 x 5 = $120
24 x 10 = $240
Between $120 - 240 a month. Denis was spot on accurate.

This all depends on your target market. You'll make more on medical terms and banners than on dog supply.

Edit: Oops I wanted to make it clear, that's if you used the same advertiser. If you rotate banners from different advertisers, the MAX you should make TOTAL is my figure above.

Thanks for the input. I guess what I'm hoping for is that if I sell ad space via a banner I would be able to cover the cost of upgrading my service here. I'm not happy about having to consider such a move, but it looks like I'm going to be forced to do so.

A little off topic, but is there a way I can find out how many unique visitors I get each day? Awstats tells me how many visits I have, but I don't know if it's one person visiting 7 to 8 hundred times a day, or if it's 300 people visiting a couple times each. Just curious.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section of the forum to be asking.

Thanks!

Mike

On the very top right of awstats, it shows unique visitors. Below that, you'll see total visits (could be same IP and not unique).

If I'm looking at awstats, it gives me a total count for unique visitors for the month, but it doesn't break it down per day like the total visits does. It does give me an average number of unique visitors based on the amount of visits, but I want actual numbers, not averages. It could be one visitor returning often that skews the numbers. I know that there are several members that seem to have moved in and spend a majority of the day coming and going from the forum.

So am I right in that I can't find out how many unique visitors I get each day, only averages based on the monthly total?

Thanks!

Mike

Yeah, you are correct about that. My major annoyance is you cant break down keyword clicks by search engine. I hate that. AWstats isn't perfect, but I don't complain since it is free.

In your case, the total uniques for the month is what you need for banner CPM inquiries though. But if you want more stats, check out a third party vendor or Google Analytics. I am considering Mint myself.

Hope this helps.

You can also charge for having 1 banner so there is no rotation and they always at the top and not alternating - maybe $20 extra per month?

Man I am learning some great stuff here. I have always wondering the standard price to ask for this kind of thing. its good to know there is a formula behind it rather then randomness!

cheers
