Default htaccess help

I don't know if this is the correct area to ask this, but I need help with an htaccess file.

Many moons ago I had my forum located in a subfolder of a domain I have. I eventually created a second domain specifically for the forum so it would no longer be associated with the old domain. With me so far?

I was still getting traffic to the old location so I placed an htaccess file in the old subfolder that redirected visitors to an index.html file located in the old folder. This index file was a simple message stating that the site had moved and they needed to update their bookmarks. I also provided a link to the new location. The htaccess file worked great because if anyone tried to visit any old URL within the old folder other than the index file it would always redirect them to the index file. For whatever reason, I no longer have the htaccess file and can't remember the code I used to handle the process. Now visitors that visit the old location using an URL other than to the index file they just get a 404 error.

If it makes sense to anyone and they can help me rewrite the file I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Mike

Do you mean you need a mod_rewrite that says:

index.html is now index.php etc... ?

No, what I needed was a way to redirect traffic from a subfolder to an index file that states that the forum has moved and they need to update their bookmarks.

I actually figured it out and have it working now. Thanks for checking, though.
