Main page before Index

Hi guys

This is a first time creating/designing a web page, I am doing the editing and publishing via Adobe Dreamweaver, but my question is, if I want to create a Welcome Page before the index, how do I do this?

My intention is when someone enters my domain address, it takes them to a front portal page (welcome page), which then has a link (something like 'Enter Site') that takes the user to the main index page.

From the online tutorial I read, the main page is always going to be the index, but I have seen a couple of websites that has a separate main page to the index page. Anyone can explain to me how this works?

A convenient way is via Domains -> Redirects icon in cPanel interface. Select a domain from drop down menu, on the line bellow write the domain again followed from your chosen name for welcome page. Set radio button to "Redirect with or without www." and click on the Add button. I'm sure I'll be fine, but listen to my advice - always use the index page as your first (welcome) page!
