Default Editing a header image in WordPress stylesheet

Tell me if this is the wrong forum, it is kind of a coding question.

I want to edit the image background from the css file in the header in my new WP theme. I can view the area where I can edit online the css file. I can identify the line of code that is the header image. I know this because if I delete the line of code the image goes away and if I add it back and it comes back.

The path says images/header.gif. Where is the images folder? I want to download the image and make a few changes using Photoshop and then upload it again.

Is there a better way to do this?

Do I have to do this when I am logged into my hostican account rather than the admin part of my WP site? I am trying to do this while logged in to the WP admin part.

Please check my response to your other post. No need to do this twice
