Is it important to have raid on servers?

Some folks would tell you, that RAID 1 isn't necessary. However, it comes very handy when you have a problem. So here, we will talk about what the up and the down of RAID 1 is.

Cost

This is certainly a big factor when you're choosing your server. However, having raid on a server can save you thousands later vs a small inconvenience of having to pay more per month. Our RAID cards are 3ware (some of the highest quality in the market) so much so that Barracuda and other large name brands use it in their appliances.

So is it worth the extra $55/mo for a raid card? Yes.

So What is RAID 1?

A RAID 1 creates an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data on two or more disks. This is useful when read performance or reliability are more important than data storage capacity. Such an array can only be as big as the smallest member disk. A classic RAID 1 mirrored pair contains two disks (see diagram), which increases reliability geometrically over a single disk. Since each member contains a complete copy of the data, and can be addressed independently, ordinary wear-and-tear reliability is raised by the power of the number of self-contained copies.
