Insanity: What a concept

Yes, but I hope to get there with one of the forums I run one of these days. I hope. I hope. I hope.

And you'll post 1,500,000 of those messages, right?

If he has 1.5 million messages, I'll have 5 million. Not willing! lol.

I was wondering though, what type of hosting is that? Dedicated or VPS?

That's a hard thing to answer because it depends on the VB forum and its optimization and amount of plugins. So, a better question, how many active members can a shared environment with basic VB setup before its time to upgrade?

It's not so much the number of active members, but how many are online at any given point in time, how many are actively posting and/or opening forum pages, etc.

When the number of members online exceeds 75-100, you are probably closing in on requiring an upgrade to a better plan.

Bear in mind that, as popular as vBulletin is, it is not as forgiving in resources as other forum software. If you really want to get a lot of bang for no bucks, consider MyBB, which is lightweight as far as resource use is concerned (like 2.5MB of RAM), but full-featured.

Also, adding lots of mods to a forum, particularly multimedia-related, can also hog resources.
