Yes, this will rock. I believe its in the RC stage now, but should be out shortly. Naturally, HostICan will have a seamless upgrade process from your current version to the latest and greatest.

It's RC1, Denis, and the promised released date is September 24th. Of course, I've been playing with it already, and it works really well. There are some plug-ins that will have to be updated, but for most, the transition will be relatively painless.

There are some interface improvements to the Dashboard, and the Plug-ins list will now display whether a new version is available to download. That will make it easier to keep track of those things.

I'll have more to say about 2.3 once the final is available for installation via Fantastico or via direct download from the WordPress site.

How long does it take Fantastico to update its' versions after they are officially released?

Does that require a cPanel update before Fantastico updates?

I've always wondered this,

Only the powers-that-be at Fantastico know for their own updates, but it's a separate product from cPanel, so it has it's own schedule about such things.

Frankly, I've installed WordPress so long by myself, I hardly pay attention. Seriously. And before you or anyone upgrades to 2.3, go to the WordPress › Blog Tool and Weblog Platform site and check out the information. If you depend on plug-ins heavily, also check this page, which shows you what's working and what isn't:

Plugins/Plugin Compatibility/2.3 « WordPress Codex

You'll see most stuff works, although a few things, such as the great plug-ins from Lester Chan (WP-Print, etc.) require minor fixes, for which betas are available.

Well, basically how it works:

cPanel / WHM - Company A

Fantasico (Netutenburg) - Company B

As you can see from the above, they are different companies. They only thing they have in common is cPanel / WHM. Normally an update is available within 2 - 3 days after the official release is made (sometimes longer). But normally within a week of the official release (at the latest) its available in the cPanel.

Yikes, so for those that use Fantastico (I don't), they can install old software for up to a week after an update (major or minor) is released. Interesting.

And you can always download direct from the WordPress site and get versions way back to the beginning (though I wonder why anyone would want something that old, but if it works, it works.
