But, after 2.3 , do you think we really need fantastico to update it ... I think wordpress will take care of the upgrades from there.. right from the dashboard

It's supposed to alert you to upgrades, but I'm not sure of the mechanism. It may still require you to manually retrieve it, as you already have to do with the plug-ins even after being alerted that a new one is available. There can be security issues with doing Internet-based upgrades to one's server that would have to be overcome for this thing to work.

I tend to agree. It sounds like they will update you just like other software does. A prompt when you first login alerting you to the upgrade. I sure wouldn't want my site accepting commands from other servers to upgrade automatically, that is a serious issue.

Well, people are already yelling at Microsoft for pulling stunts like that.

On the other hand, having the ability to accept an upgrade via a dialog box wouldn't be a bad idea, and it's done by third party plug-ins already. But again there are permissions issues that could create security concerns.

I think this feature will be the most discussed one, after the release of 2.3

Nah. Not much unless you have a plug-in that's not compatible (and the vast majority work beautifully).

I did a manual install on two interlocking blogs of the RC1 version and it worked fine. I was too impatient to wait on Fantastico
